Real Numbers, Not Samples

Free 30-Day Trial, On Your Own Data

Your items, your costs, your sales history — because a trial on someone else's store proves nothing about yours

A good trial is based on real numbers instead of hypothetical samples. A demo on somebody else's store tells you the software runs. It does not tell you what your pricing is costing you — and that is the only question worth answering before you spend money.

So the trial runs on your store. For 30 days, at no cost, Margin Master works from your point-of-sale data and your own vendor catalog. The first thing it shows you is your current sitting margin, which of your vendor's pricing programs your shelf prices actually follow, and what each alternative would do to your price tags and your margin. Those are your numbers. Nobody has to take our word for anything.

And you do not have to set it up alone. Plenty of stores do it themselves — the installer and the handbook cover it. But if you would rather not work out how to get your data in, we will happily do it with you: the import from your point of sale, and your vendor's catalog and pricing for your own store, your zones or your own RSC.

How the 30 days work

Do it yourself or let us help — step four is your answer either way

1. Tell us about your store

Your store number, your buying group and which point of sale you run. That is the whole of what we need from you to start.

2. Set it up — or we will

Install Margin Master, point it at your point of sale and connect your vendor's catalog and pricing. Do it yourself, or say the word and we will do it with you — we have set this up for more than forty different point-of-sale systems.

3. Your own data loads

Your costs, your last twelve months of unit sales, your current retails, and your vendor's pricing refreshed daily. Nothing is a sample.

4. You run a Store Assessment

It reads your items and reports where your pricing stands, what strategy it is actually following, and what the opportunity is worth in dollars a year. Then you have 30 days to work with it.

What you will know by the end of it

  • Your current sitting margin — your blended margin weighted by what you actually sold
  • Which of your vendor's pricing programs your shelf prices already follow
  • What every other program level would do to your price tags and your margin
  • Where the opportunity is, department by department, and how closely customers watch each one
  • What it is worth in yearly gross profit — at your own twelve-month volume

If the number is small, you will know that too. That is the point of measuring rather than guessing.

Volume-weighted margin compared with a simple average An illustration. Seven departments are drawn as bars: each bar's width is the units it sold and its height is its margin. The departments that sell the most units carry the lowest margins, so the volume-weighted sitting margin of 31.7 percent falls well below the simple average of 41.1 percent across the same seven numbers. 20% 40% 60%Fasteners — 2,400 units at 22% marginPaint sundries — 1,200 units at 30% marginHand tools — 700 units at 38% marginElectrical — 500 units at 42% marginPlumbing — 400 units at 46% marginLawn & garden — 300 units at 52% marginSpecialty — 150 units at 58% margin Simple average 41.1% Sitting margin 31.7% most units, least margin fewest units Bar width = units sold  ·  bar height = margin
Illustrative. A simple average gives a once-a-year special order the same vote as the item at the front counter; sitting margin does not.

Your prices stay yours

Nothing goes to your shelf or your registers unless you send it. Margin Master builds future prices for you to review; a strategy is not active until you make it active, and the new retails only reach your point of sale when you say so.

And the guarantee behind it

If Margin Master does not earn at least ten times its annual subscription cost in additional profit in your first twelve months, we refund you in full.
