True Value Store Assessment

The Store Assessment works for True Value, Do it Best and Ace stores; the Store Assessment page explains the screen, its goals, plans and tabs. This page covers what is different for a True Value store: how it is read before and after its transition to Do it Best SKUs, and the True Value levels it compares.

The store sets its own prices. The potential plans are sample models, not advice. Which plan to use, and every price in it, is the store's decision.

Watch it, or walk through it in the app: lesson 3008, Setting up a True Value store and its Store Assessment. Turn on Training / Guide Mode from the Help menu, then type 3008 into the Lessons & Guides box.

Before and after the transition

Open it from Strategy › Strategy Utilities › True Value Store Assessment. It appears for True Value stores: Primary Vendor/Buying Group = True Value on Options › Store Information, with True Value store set to Pre-transition (the POS uses True Value item numbers) or Transitioned (it uses Do it Best SKUs). See Pre-transition or transitioned.

Under the "sample pricing models" note at the top, the screen says which way it read the store, for example "Read as transitioned: the POS uses Do it Best SKUs. 1,256 items still use a True Value item number and are matched through Do it Best's cross-reference." The Overview tab repeats it as Item numbers (pre-transition or transitioned), along with how many catalog items True Value also carried versus Do it Best-only items. If that is not how the store's POS works, fix the setup before going on.

The True Value levels

Level Fit compares True Value Level 1, 1.5 and 2, and the Do it Best suggested retail. The level needing the fewest price changes is the program the store's prices follow; set True Value program at the top if the store knows it was on another. The levels are already on True Value's rounding table, so the store's default rounding, TV-1, changes them least. For one True Value store, the plan closest to its goals came out like this:

Rounding Price changes Future sitting margin change
No rounding 6,179 +1.62 points
TV-1 6,543 +1.66 points
MM 2016 9,349 +2.00 points
AF-1 10,261 +2.33 points
AF-2 11,008 +2.49 points

Strategies it creates are named for the True Value level, for example TV 1.5 Fewest Changes 2026-10-09. The blind-item uplift prices low-awareness items under $10 at True Value Level 2. See True Value Price Levels for the levels and TV-1.

Troubleshooting

Symptom Cause Fix
"Margin Master is set up as transitioned, but most of this store's POS items still use True Value item numbers" True Value store says Transitioned before the POS transitioned. About 4,000 True Value item numbers are also a different item's Do it Best SKU, so those items would be matched wrongly On Options › Store Information, set True Value store to Pre-transition, build the main table, then open the assessment again
"Margin Master is set up as pre-transition, but most of this store's POS items use Do it Best SKUs" The POS has transitioned but True Value store still says Pre-transition Follow When the store transitions its POS
"True Value levels have not been calculated yet" Vendor data has not synced since the store was set to True Value Run File › Sync Vendor Data and build the main table, then open the assessment again
